Can I use Calcium or Vitamin sands?

NO! Sands containing Calcium or Vitamins will encourage your dragon(s) to eat the sand. This can lead to impaction and death. Only use natural sands such as Repti-sand or very well washed (not bleached) "play sand" that is free from large particles, dyes and debris. I have links to the correct sands on the Shopping List page. Calcium and Vitamins need to be done through powders that you can dust their salads or crickets with, not through eating their sub-straight.

What size tank should I use?

Tank size depends on how many dragons you have. Single dragons should be housed in enclosures that are 3 feet long X 2 feet deep X 20 inches tall. For multiple dragons (up to 3 females. Never house a male with another dragon), you will need 4 feet long X 2 feet deep X 20 inches tall.

I have heard some breeders say to scale down the cage size for smaller dragons, but to me that is a waste of money. Dragons grow rather fast, as they will reach adult size in about a year. Therefore, I do not suggest buying multiple size cages for a dragon to "grow in to".

Can I feed my dragon the canned or pellet foods for Bearded Dragons?

You can try. However, it has been my experience that they will rarely, if ever eat "processed" reptile foods. In fact, none of my dragons will even look at that stuff.

What temperatures should my dragon have?

Your dragon's cage set up needs to have a "basking" side and a "cool" side.

Day: Under the basking rock should be between 105 and 115 degrees. Our dragons prefer 110 degrees on the basking end. On the other side of the cage should be the "cool" side, and temps there should be between 80 and 90 degrees.

Night: Temps during the night hours should be right around 70 to 75 degrees. If they go lower than that it's fine, as long as it does not go lower than 60 degrees (unless brumating).

Would you recommend Mealworms or Superworms?

A while back I would have said "NO WAY"! However, recently I have found a supplier that sells top quality Superworms that are super fat and are heavily gut loaded! These worms are literally bulging out of their shells! So, if you can get good quality Supers from a good breeder / supplier,.. go for it! The supplier we get our Supers from (along with other feeder insects) is Small Pet Feeders. They have great customer service and great prices!

How often should I be giving my dragon a bath?

Depends on the age of your dragon. 2 months to  6 months old, every other day. Over 6 months old, once a week. Bath time helps to keep your dragon hydrated and aids in shedding old skin. Most dragons do not drink out of a bowl in their cages, but they will when put into a bath. Bath water temps should be warm, but not hot.

How often should I be feeding "greens"?

Greens and veggies should be fed daily! A list of what we feed our dragons can be found on the Diet page.

How often should I dust the insects with calcium?

Insects should be dusted daily for younger dragons, and every other day for adult dragons.

Can I use the "Glow-in-the-Dark" sand?

Bottom line, NO! The additives that causes the sand to "glow" can kill your dragon if they eat the sand. Do not use any sands that contain added dyes or chemicals that alter it's color.
