Our Bearded Dragons
We are extremely pleased with the dragons we have acquired from the various top breeders here in the United States. This allows us to achieve our goal of producing genetically sound and healthy Bearded Dragons from the highest quality blood-lines. We look forward to the many years ahead of us and the opportunity to to continue working with other top breeders. We feel confident that we are helping to provide the best available Bearded Dragons possible to those that have been and those that will be "Bit By The Beardie Bug!!"™
*Note on our "Blue Eyes" Projects*
Genetic investigation into the gene that is responsible for the blue eye coloring in our Bearded Dragon males Brisingr and Tango indicates the gene will be passed on to their offspring. However, until further breeding of their offspring can be done to "prove out" this genetic trait, it is not certain what percentage of the gene the babies will carry. Further study will be done to determine if this is a Co-dominate or Recessive gene and if we can push it to a more Dominate state. Being that Brisingr and Tango both visibly show the blue eyes, it is highly probable that this gene exists in their DNA as a Co-dominate gene. Again, we can not determine at this time what percentage of their babies will retain this gene, but they will be carriers of the trait.
How we grade quality & price our dragons
1. Pet Quality: These are the babies in each clutch with the least amount of color. These are available at a lower cost, however they still show more color and are of better quality than “pet store” dragons.
2. Breeder Quality: These babies are average in color for their clutch. This group is in the mid- price range.
3. Hold Back Quality / Collectors Quality: These are intensely colored dragons and the top babies in their clutch. We select breeders come from this category.
Color Types (examples of some, not all “color” morph types)
1. Hypo: Clear nails
2. Pastel: Soft colors, no dark pigmenting except for beard.
3. Snow: White base with very faint (“air brushed” looking) pastels.
4. 100% Marketed Leucistic: White with extremely faint to no coloration and clear nails.
5. Red: Anywhere from a fiery orange-red to a deep brick red.
6. Citrus: Bright yellows.
7. Tangerine: Bright orange.
Pattern Types (examples of some, not all “pattern” morph types)
1. Patternless: Solid coloration with no distinct patterning.
2. Normal: Shows patterning usually along the spine and can also have “side bars”
3. Tiger: Strong “Side bar” markings that resemble a “tiger” type pattern. True Tiger morphs will carry this gene onto their offspring, as it is a “Co-dominate” gene.
Skin Types:
1. Normal: Rough scale texture.
2. Leatherback / American Smoothy: Smooth scale texture. Can be with or with/out side spikes.
3. Silkback: No scales, no side spikes. Skin has the texture and feel of silk.
4. Translucent: Skin has a “see through” quality to it, even into adulthood.
New colors and pattern morphs are being created every year! These are what you could call “Designer” Bearded Dragons. Breeders work very hard, and take years to develop new patterns, colors and skin morphs. It takes a lot of dedication, patience, research, knowledge, resources and some added luck to be able to create these beautiful more exotic “morphs”!
